Nov. 6--The union of Cazenove and JP Morgan marries the last independent English merchant bank with a brash American made good.

Cazenove's roots can be traced to Huguenot financiers fleeing France more than 300 years ago. Philip Cazenove joined his brother-in-law John Menet at the firm in 1819. They established a partnership four years later to advise private clients.

Cazenove boasts the Queen and David Beckham among its clients. It advises 43 FTSE 100 companies.

JP Morgan traces its roots back to 1799. It has had a presence in London since 1838.
