Nov. 11--Journeyman electrician Kelvin Malin, 47, advises all high school students who want to work as electricians to pay attention in algebra class. They'll need solid math skills, he said.
An electrician for 25 years, Malin has worked on everything from private residences and businesses to lighthouses. Several years ago, he was part of a team of electricians hired to redo the electrical service panels at Piedras Blancas Lighthouse. They upgraded the antiquated panels and put them in weatherproof stainless-steel boxes to protect them from the elements.
He now works for Select Electric in Los Osos with daily jobs ranging from troubleshooting...
