Visa warns banks on security of accounts.

Nov. 16--An electronic heist of bank-card account numbers has exposed thousands of Visa customers nationwide to potential fraud, banking-industry officials said Monday.

The incident -- a computer-security breach at a large retailer -- is thought to have compromised an unspecified number of debit-card and check-card accounts, including some in Florida, Visa said. The company has alerted SunTrust Bank and other banks, which issued the cards involved.

Atlanta-based SunTrust said only a fraction of its 1.8 million check-card users were exposed. The bank is issuing new cards. It began notifying customers in early November. "We are monitoring the situation...
