Kmart, Sears will both benefit from distribution, cost savings, says analyst.

Nov. 18--The announced merger of Kmart and Sears is a "great opportunity" for both retailers, Phani T. Adidam, a marketing professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, said Wednesday.
The merger, he said, would result in opportunities in three areas: improve Kmart's supply-chain management; provide cost savings by consolidating functions previously handled by each company; and provide a wider and better variety of goods for consumers.
Both companies have a major presence in the Midlands. As of February 2004, Kmart had eight stores in Nebraska and 25 stores in Iowa. As of September 2004, Sears has six stores in Nebraska and 12 stores in Iowa....
