Glens Falls, N.Y., sewer operator to lay off workers in light of investigation.

Nov. 19--GLENS FALLS, N.Y. -- Some employees of Earth Tech Inc. will be getting pink slips as the company that operates the city's Water and Sewer Department deals with an investigation into charges it paid less than standard wages.

As of Thursday, the number of layoffs and whether they would be temporary or permanent had not yet been determined, said Michael Kelly, the company's regional manager.

A corporate official is flying in from Michigan in early December to evaluate the situation, after which management will discuss layoffs with the union, he said.

Layoffs will be effective by the end of the year.
