CIGNA to donate painting to Hartford, Conn., museum.

Nov. 20--CIGNA Corp., shedding aesthetic investments and part of its history, will donate art and artifacts worth millions to institutions around the country, including one painting to Hartford's Wadsworth Atheneum.

The Philadelphia-based insurer with a Bloomfield campus announced Friday it will give away about 5,000 pieces of art and historical items, and sell about 200 other artworks through Sotheby's in New York.

CIGNA said a total value on the collection, assembled over many years, was not available Friday. The works to be auctioned include watercolors by famous artists, including Winslow Homer and Maurice Prendergast, and paintings by Marsden Hartley...
