Marshall & Ilsley to open bank branches outside of Wisconsin.

Nov. 20--Marshall & Ilsley Corp. plans to open as many as 20 bank branches next year in its three key markets outside of Wisconsin -- Phoenix, Minneapolis and St. Louis.
Although the bank is always on the lookout for acquisitions, the plan now is to create individual new branches in those areas rather than buy a smaller bank, M&I Bank President Mark F. Furlong said.
M&I, which is based in Milwaukee and is Wisconsin's most popular bank with depositors, wants to gain ground in the fast-growing Phoenix and Minneapolis metro areas. M&I expects to open six to eight branches in Arizona and four to eight in Minneapolis in 2005. It also may add two to four branches...
