Barclays may make 4.54 billion pounds profit this year.

Nov. 26--Barclays is on course for 4.54 billion pounds profits this year -- that is 4,280 pounds for the 30 seconds or so it takes to withdraw cash from one of its ATMs.
But the bank -- which last month set out plans to boost the bottom line of its UK High Street business by up to 700 million pounds over three years -- said the performance of its British retail operations is "flat" after five base rate rises.
The expected 18 percent hike in profits will be fuelled by gains in business banking, investment banking and fund management.
Barclaycard -- famously shunned by chairman Matt Barrett as an expensive way to borrow -- turned in a "solid" performance....
