ExpressJet contract gives pilots 11 percent pay raise.

Dec. 1--Pilots for ExpressJet, the regional carrier of Continental Airlines, have approved a new contract that includes an immediate 11 percent pay raise.

The deal brings an end to a long struggle in which the pilots union resorted to public protests to push demands.

One major issue the pilots had highlighted during some demonstrations was the $17,600 annual starting pay for ExpressJet pilots.

Pilot scheduling was another issue in the lengthy negotiations, which had been ongoing since July 2002.

The new four-year contract takes effect today, Capt. Mark Leneski, chairman of the ExpressJet pilots union, said Tuesday.
