Nintendo launches DS portable video game console.

Dec. 2--TOKYO -- Nintendo Co. on Thursday launched its Nintendo DS portable video game console, kicking off a year-end sales competition with rival Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., which plans to release its PlayStation Portable later this month.
At an electronics retailer in Tokyo, about 100 people lined up in the early morning to purchase the Nintendo DS, which costs 15,000 yen.
In Osaka, people who were anxious to buy the product formed lines at home appliance retailers.
