British airline Virgin Atlantic to appeal for greater access to Indian market.

Dec. 4--Virgin Atlantic boss Sir Richard Branson will ask Transport Secretary Alistair Darling to end British Airways' "utter dominance" on flights between London and Mumbai.

Branson's airline has been handed just three flights a week to Mumbai -- as well as a daily service to Delhi -- but it wanted to fly to Mumbai every day. Virgin planned to take control of 18 out of 21 new flights to India.

He was "disappointed and surprised" that he had not been granted a daily service to Mumbai, the jewel in the crown of Indian flights because of its size and potential.

Instead, the prized route has been split between Virgin and BMI British Midland.
