Alembic Pharma to move beyond Glycodin in India over-the-counter market.

Dec. 4--KOLKATA, India -- In a move to boost topline growth, Alembic Pharmaceutical, popularly known as the maker of Glycodin in India, is making a foray into the over-the-counter (OTC) drug segment.

The Rs 625-crore pharma company has planned to launch two or three products every year in the cough and cold, pain management, gastro and lifestyle therapeutic segments.

Alembic is currently in the process of identifying potential molecules for the product categories. It has just completed a restructuring exercise to bring OTC or consumer healthcare products and distribution under a separate division for an approach distinct from prescription products....
