CIGNA agrees to pay commission fees for dental plan to Connecticut.

Dec. 8--CIGNA Corp. has agreed to pay the state more than $870,000 because the company improperly charged and concealed commissions on dental insurance for state employees, Connecticut officials said Tuesday.

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said CIGNA's $870,388.68 payment -- $481,246 reflecting commissions and the rest interest -- resulted from his office's ongoing probe of insurance industry practices.

CIGNA, however, claimed credit for bringing the 14-year situation to the state's attention and said the action wasn't the result of ongoing investigations of commission practices.
