India's Maharashtra state kicks off process to split up power utility.

Dec. 8--NAGPUR, India -- The Maharashtra government on Tuesday kicked off a process to trifurcate the country's largest state-owned state power utility -- Maharashtra State Electricity Board.

According to Dilip Valse Patil, the state energy minister, different entities for power generation, transmission and distribution would be carved out of MSEB in the next six months. Till then, MSEB will work as a central agency.

The process is expected to be completed by June 10, '05. By this time, the feasibility study for further disintegration of MSEB would also be over. Based on the findings of this study, the government will slice the utilities further to make way...
