Boston parent of troubled Rhode Island radio station eliminates jobs.

Dec. 9--Peter Fiedler, interim general manager for Boston University's public radio station WBUR, announced yesterday that the station has laid off six staff members.

Two other employees resigned, bringing to eight the number of WBUR positions eliminated.

WBUR is the parent station of Rhode Island NPR station WRNI-AM. During an interview at The Providence Journal, Fiedler said none of WRNI's five employees is affected by the layoffs.

WBUR announced its intention to sell WRNI in September, infuriating local supporters of public radio.
