State leader says central government should lead in tackling Maoist rebels.

Dec. 9--NEW DELHI, India -- Chhatisgarh chief minister Raman Singh today put the onus on fighting the Naxalite menace on the Centre, saying that the ramifications of the problem were such that the state government was ill-equipped to confront it on its own.
Mr Singh, while speaking to newspersons here a day after celebrating the first anniversary of the BJP government in the state, pointed out that the Naxalites' area of activity was confined mainly to areas falling on Chhatisgarh's borders with the other states, including Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Orissa.
