Dec. 11--Hanif Lalani's promotion to finance director of BT guarantees him membership of a small but growing band of executives from ethnic backgrounds working at the top of some of Britain's biggest companies.
His elevation comes just over a year after chairman Sir Christopher Bland said BT needed some "black and brown faces on the board."
