Dec. 12--AUDI DROPS THE A-BOMB: Going to war may be a drawn-out, angst-ridden process for modern governments -- but no such niceties exist in the car business, as Audi has just proved.
The German manufacturer has declared all-out hostilities with rival BMW by launching a none-too subtle pre-emptive strike against the new 3 Series, which is due to hit the showrooms in March.
Audi's attack comes in the shape of a heavily updated A4, which will be launched next month, the main visual change being the addition of an aggressive new front end designed to tackle the Beemer head on.
