Dec. 16--WILD HORSE TAKES A LEAP: Ken Volk, a veteran winemaker and former owner of Wild Horse Winery in Templeton, hopes to open a new winery near Santa Maria as early as August.
Planning to establish a new brand of luxury-class wines, Volk, a San Luis Obispo resident, bought part of Byron Winery from Robert Mondavi Corp. The $2.3 million sale closed Monday, the Santa Barbara News-Press reported.
The purchase of the Tepusquet Road property is solely an asset purchase, with no brands or inventory included, Volk said. Mondavi personnel will not be affected and will continue to work under the Byron brand at a neighboring facility, he added....
