Dec. 18--Texas received a rare piece of good news Friday about its air quality.
All 254 counties comply with strict new federal laws designed to cut emissions of fine particles linked to thousands of premature deaths annually nationwide, the Environmental Protection Agency said Friday.
The state's compliance with the fine particle standard differs from its performance on other air-quality parameters, particularly ground-level ozone. Nine counties in North Texas alone violate the ozone standard.
