Senator Roskam: Senate Approves Anti-Terrorism Legislation; Keeps Death Penalty Provisions

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Feb. 22 /U.S. Newswire/ -- In response to the Governor's recommendations for change to the anti-terrorism bill passed last fall, the Illinois Senate today agreed to accept the changes with the exception of his proposal to remove the death penalty provisions, according to State Sen. Peter Roskam (R- Wheaton).

"If someone who commits an act of terror in our state is not eligible for the death penalty -- then who is?" Roskam said. "We need to be sending a clear message to terrorists to make them understand that they will face the ultimate punishment for their crimes. It seems to me that the last place to debate the merits of the death penalty is in the context of an anti-terrorism proposal."
