U.S. Department Of Health And Human Services (HHS) Eliminates Citizens' Privacy Rights For Personal Medical Information

NEW YORK, Aug. 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Today the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services published in the Federal Register amendments to the current Health Information Privacy Rule that will eliminate the federal right of all citizens to not have their medical information used or disclosed without their consent. 67 Fed. Reg. 53,182. This radical change in the Privacy Rule that became effective on April 14, 2001, will deprive all citizens of any meaningful ability to protect the privacy of their health information. Under the amended Privacy Rule, Americans will be forced to choose between maintaining their medical privacy and obtaining needed health care.
