Watchdog Groups Call for Offsetting the Costs of Tax and Entitlement Measures to Halt Expansion of Deficits and Debt

Five budget watchdog groups will hold a news conference Thursday, June 23 at 10 a.m. (ET) to issue a joint statement calling on Congress to offset both the short- and long-term costs of all future tax cuts and increases in entitlement programs. The statement warns that unpaid-for tax cuts that Congress may consider in coming months - - including measures related to the estate tax, the Alternative Minimum Tax, and retirement savings - - go far beyond the bounds of the recently approved Congressional budget and could add $1 trillion to $2 trillion in deficits and debt over the coming decade.
