Senior Day at NY State Fair Proves a Hot Spot For Social Security Reform; AARP Celebrates Program's 70th Anniversary

SYRACUSE, N.Y., Aug. 30 /U.S. Newswire/ -- As AARP celebrated Social Security's 70th birthday at the State Fair by serving a giant cake made in the likeness of a Social Security card, they also served up a strong message for Congress on reforming the program "Strengthen It - Don't Destroy It." AARP is urging Congress to focus Social Security reform on workable solutions, rather than those that weaken the program, such as private account proposals.

Thousands of people stopped by AARP's booth on Senior Day to sign giant Social Security anniversary cards and postcards letting their members of Congress know they want the promise of Social Security kept alive for all generations. Over 65,000 petition postcards have been collected in New York State over the past several months....
