Medicaid is Levee for Health System: Congress Should Not Cut Funds; Association of Academic Health Centers Says Cuts Inappropriate in Wake of Hurricane Katrina

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the Association of Academic Health Centers is calling on Congress to reconsider provisions of the Congressional Budget Resolution that calls for $10 billion in cuts to federal Medicaid spending. At a time when the need for health care is so urgent for those dislocated by this disaster, it would be ill- advised to reduce coverage or increase the cost of services for the millions of Americans who depend on this program.
