Congress Revives Personal Account Debate; Freedomworks Applauds Senators for Vote to Stop Raid on Social Security

WASHINGTON, March 17 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Last night forty-six senators proved that the commitment to fixing the Social Security crisis is alive and well on Capitol Hill by voting for the DeMint- Crapo Amendment. The amendment would have stopped the raid on the Social Security surplus and provided a framework for voluntary personal accounts as part of any Social Security legislation drafted this year.
Unfortunately, the amendment to the Senate Budget Resolution (S Con Res 83) was defeated 46-53, with all Democrat Senators and Republican Sens. Burns, Chafee, Collins, Domenici, Lugar, Smith, Snowe, and Talent voting no. Particularly encouraging was the fact that among the 46 "yes" votes included GOP Presidential hopefuls George Allen, Sam Brownback, Bill Frist, and John McCain....
