Brand Name Rx Prices Soar Past Inflation; AARP Presses for 2 Laws in NY to Battle High Drug Prices

ALBANY, N.Y., April 13 /U.S. Newswire/ -- New Yorkers already struggling with high prescription drug prices received more bad news this week -- an AARP study found that prices for brand name drugs most widely used by Americans 50 and older have outpaced inflation for the sixth straight year. Armed with the new study, AARP New York is pushing forward with its Rx affordability efforts, focusing on two pieces of legislation to help New Yorkers hit hard by rising drug costs.
"High drug prices have created a barrier between people and the drugs they need to stay healthy," said Lois Aronstein, AARP New York State director. "We need state laws to help knock those barriers down -- unfortunately the drug industry continues to stop those efforts at every turn."
