Gerardo Braggiotti and George Ralli, Lazard's two most distinguished European bankers, have been in talks with UBS Warburg about joining its investment banking operations in senior positions.

Braggiotti and Ralli are understood to be unhappy with the appointment of Bruce Wasserstein as the new chief executive of Lazard and are concerned about the amount of power he has been given by chairman Michel David-Weill. They want to be assured that if they stay at Lazard, they will be able to share management responsibilities with Wasserstein and will be given equity with voting rights in the new ownership scheme.
