Hanna to head Mako hedge fund.

Robert Hanna, a veteran of Merrill Lynch's equity finance business, has left to run the hedge fund group at Mako Global Derivatives. Hanna, a UK national who most recently was based in the US, says Mako has been trading hedge fund strategies on a proprietary basis for the last six years. Mako is an options market maker with offices in New York, London, Chicago, Amsterdam and Sydney. This is the first time that the firm, which employs 170 people globally, will launch a dedicated hedge fund.

At Merrill, Hanna was director of sales and marketing in the global equity finance division. He reported to Marcy Recktenwald, a former alumnus of Bankers Trust. Hanna spent nine years at Merrill, originally based in London.
