Vantis chooses tough time for corporate finance start.

Vantis, the UK accounting and professional services group, has surprised some of its rivals by launching a corporate finance division amid poor market conditions.The firm believes that corporate finance will give it access to more remunerative work, even when others are suffering.

Vantis has hired Michael Norrie and Colin Harvey from HLB Kidsons to develop the venture, and has dedicated a further six people to M&A.

Setting up a corporate finance division in a bear market may seem illogical as there are few mergers and acquisitions upon which to advise and the outlook looks bleak for the next 18 months.
