Vodafone boosts efforts to win SFR.

Vodafone has stepped up its efforts to gain control of SFR, the French mobile telephone operator, by improving its offers to buy out the stakes held by Vivendi Universal and BT Group.According to people close to the transaction, the UK mobile operator has made a 'modest' increase in its offer to BT Group and relaxed a get-out clause that formed part of its original offer for Vivendi's holding.

The increase is understood to value BT Group's 26% stake in Cegetel, the French telecommunications operator that owns 80% of SFR, at more than pound sterling2.6bn ([euro]4.1bn).
