Lazard exceeds hiring expectations.

Lazard has hired 24 managing directors in the past year, exceeding initial predictions for building up the bank, and there are more appointments to come.When Bruce Wasserstein joined Lazard as head in January, he said he would beef up the business.

The 24 hires represent about 10% of Lazard's total managing director headcount.

The new appointees cover sectors including restructuring, energy, chemicals, financial institutions and consumer products.

Jeffrey Sechrest, Louis Zachary and John Chachas, media specialists from Merrill Lynch in New York, are the most recent additions, hired last month.
