Asset Alliance Corporation, the US alternative investment firm, has formed a joint venture with Barclay Research Group, the consultant, to create a global index and a range of investment products based on managed futures.Managed futures were among the best-performing alternative investment strategies in the first half of last year, outperforming the S&P500 by more than 35%, according to figures from CSFB/Tremont.

But the asset class suffered something of a setback late last year, falling by 5% in October alone.
