Reuters unseats 1,000 Thomson screens at Fahnestock unit.

Reuters has hit back at rival Thomson Financial, unseating and replacing 1,000 of Thomson's ILX equities data display systems at Oppenheimer, a new division at brokerage firm Fahnestock.New York-based Fahnestock renewed and extended its existing agreement for 1,250 Reuters Plus retail equity workstations, in addition to the 1,000 positions for Oppenheimer. Fahnestock bought Oppenheimer from CIBC World markets last month.

A spokeswoman for Reuters said the deal shows that Reuters can take on Thomson Financial in the mid-tier market, and on Thomson's home turf of New York. No one at Thomson Financial was available for comment.
