Candover casts eye over Mirror again.

Candover, the venture capital group, is waiting to pounce on Trinity Mirror, should Sly Bailey's planned restructuring of the newspaper publisher stumble.This weekend it emerged that Candover had tried to persaude the publisher to sell it the Daily Mirror and its other national titles in the spring, shortly after Ms Bailey's appointment as chief executive.

Candover's pursuit of the Daily Mirror was rejected by a meeting of Trinity Mirror's board, which insiders say discussed the proposal about four months ago. Its existence was kept secret from investors until now. Nor is it clear what price, if any, was mooted; although the national newspapers have been valued at [pounds sterling]500m ([euro]710m).
