Goldman leads M&A table while Morgan fails to reach top five.

Morgan Stanley, which placed sixth last year and fourth in 2001 in the global M&A league tables has failed to make the top five so far this year while arch rival Goldman Sachs has swept the board, according to preliminary nine-month figures from Dealogic, the data provider.While Goldman Sachs came top of the European, US and global rankings, Morgan Stanley did not reach the top five in any of the three categories.

Instead, it ranked seventh in Europe, sixth in the US and eighth globally. The figures show that Goldman Sachs is back on track after sitting in 10th position in the European league table this time last year when Morgan Stanley came second. Morgan Stanley ended last year first in Europe.
