KL, Tokyo agree on currency swap terms, BUSINESS TIMES

Business Times (Malaysia) 05-11-2001 MALAYSIA and Japan have agreed on terms for two bilateral currency swap facilities involving a total of US$3.5 billion (US$1 = RM3.80) which will largely be free of International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditionalities. The two countries have worked out a new US$1 billion swap arrangement under the Chiang Mai Initiative which will see IMF playing no role over an initial 10 per cent of the amount available for disbursement.

In addition, new and more favourable terms have been agreed upon for the existing US$2.5 billion facility, which is part of the US$30 billion Miyazawa Initiative and is completely free of IMF conditionalities, according to a statement from the Finance Ministry yesterday.
