Business Times (Malaysia) 08-06-2001 DO DEVELOPED countries and leaders of the various multilateral organizations even pay attention to what those in developing countries say? Then again do they even listen to themselves? Sometimes the answer to these questions must surely be a resounding NO.
Last week, for example, director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Mike Moore, writing in the Financial Times acknowledged that many developing countries lacked the capacity to participate in trade negotiations. Yet, at the same time, he presses for the launch of a broad new round and warns that they (developing countries) will be marginalised if a new round of world trade talks is not launched.
