Fed rate cut may benefit Malaysia's reserve position, BUSINESS TIMES

Business Times (Malaysia) 09-18-2001 THE US Federal Reserve's (Fed) decision to cut interest rates yesterday may have a positive impact on Malaysia's foreign reserve position, as it could help stem capital outflow and perhaps even encourage some funds to come in. The Fed, in a much-anticipated move, cut federal fund rates by 50 basis points to 3 per cent in a move aimed at providing a leg up to the resumption of stock trading on Wall Street after a four-day break following terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.
