HSBC Bank plans Internet banking to tap 1.1m clients, BUSINESS TIMES

Business Times (Malaysia) 09-20-2001 HSBC Bank Malaysia Bhd is the second foreign bank in the country after Citibank to launch Internet banking amid plans to tap the 1.1 million customer base expected to use online banking by 2004. Citibank launched its first phase "communicative" website last June. By 2004, it is projected that 1.1 million Malaysians, or 23 per cent of the country's total Internet users, will use online banking.
To date, there are 350,000 banking customers transacting online. Yesterday, HSBC unveiled its "communicative" Internet banking website at www.hsbc.com.my as the first step towards offering customers full-scale online banking by January next year.
