Push for civil aviation industry `watchdog', BUSINESS TIMES

Business Times (Malaysia) 05-07-2002 MALAYSIA is stepping up efforts to set up a "watchdog" body to look into both the legal and security frameworks of the country's civil aviation industry, say industry sources. The independent body, believed to be called the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), will include representatives from the Transport Ministry, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and several other Government-related divisions.
"The CAAM will become the regulator of Malaysia's civil aviation. Such a practice has been done in Australia and the UK, which have their own civil aviation authorities," one of the sources said. The plan to set up an independent body to look into the regulation framework of...
