Motorola to capitalize on replacement market, BUSINESS TIMES

Business Times (Malaysia) 09-13-2002 MOTOROLA is aiming to capitalize on the lucrative replacement market for handphones by introducing new and affordable models with color screens. "If you look at the subscriber growth of telecommunications companies, the numbers are tapering off and the market will become saturated.
"But we are targeting those who want to replace existing phones with new ones," said Eric Chong, Motorola's country manager for the personal communications sector. Malaysia is expected to have over nine million cellular phone users by the end of this year. As at December 31 2001, the country had 7.5 million users.
