Plan puts MAS in direct competition with Silk Air, BUSINESS TIMES

Business Times (Malaysia) 11-11-2002 MALAYSIAN Airline System Bhd (MAS)'s plan to increase its presence in Asia may lead it into direct competition with a more established regional carrier, Silk Air Ltd. MAS is already facing increasing competition in the domestic sector from no-frills carrier AirAsia Sdn Bhd, which is also planning to go regional next year.

While the national carrier's financial restructuring is almost complete, the extensive period taken to carry out the exercise has somewhat loosened its grip on both the domestic and regional air travel market, a local analyst reckoned.
