Palm oil sector seeks dialogue with international NGOs, BUSINESS TIMES

Business Times (Malaysia) 02-13-2003 MALAYSIA's palm oil sector seeks a meeting with international non- governmental organizations (NGOs) to establish a new common standard on what constitutes a sustainably managed forest. Malaysian Palm Oil Promotion Council (MPOPC) chief executive officer Datuk Haron Siraj said that the mutual accreditation is important to streamline many international standards which carry various interpretations.
"Some countries or NGOs choose their own set of criteria and conditions in defining what constitutes a sustainably managed forest.
