Solectron to assume higher value-added business activities, BUSINESS TIMES

Business Times (Malaysia) 03-22-2003 ELECTRONICS manufacturing services company Solectron Corp's Penang operations will assume higher value-added business activities under the company's global operations consolidation plan. This should promote more outsourcing activities given to Solectron by its multinational customers in the telecommunications, networking, personal computers and workstation market segments.
Besides training its current pool of workers, whose skills can be fitted to meet new customer demands, new job hirings are also on the cards. Senior vice-president (Asia/Pacific operations) Joe Tang said the expansion of the company's services from Penang to China is also expected to happen.
