Business Times (Malaysia) 06-02-2003 THE myth about car prices heading south because of market liberalisation under the Asean Free Trade Area (Afta) regime is becoming reality. And it comes earlier than expected. Instead of another two years before import duties are reduced substantially to signal the start of Afta in Malaysia, cars in the domestic market are getting cheaper.

This is not only because of direct price cuts, but also from savings as a result of creative loan schemes offered by distributors and franchise holders of both national and non-national makes, industry sources said.
