Give developing nations bigger voice, World Bank/IMF urged, BUSINESS TIMES

Business Times (Malaysia) 09-24-2003 DUBAI, Tues: Malaysia wants a fairer World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) through stronger participation from developing nations. Second Finance Minister Datuk Dr Jamaludin Jarjis said developing nations must be allowed to be more involved in the decision-making process of both international bodies.
He said their voice and participation need to be strengthened with respect to the improvement in the quota and voting structure. "They (World Bank and IMF) must strengthen this, besides providing financial and technical assistance, for fairer global participation," he said when addressing delegates to the annual meeting of the boards of governors of the World Bank and the IMF, here today.
