American Skandia Life, Shelton, Conn., has wedded a variable annuity and a market-value adjusted annuity into an annuity package designed for distribution through stockbrokers and financial planners.

An affiliate of ther Skandia Group, an international firm that has offered reinsurance in the United States since 1900, American Skandia has been marketing products in the U.S. since 1987.

The new annuity package, LifeVest Guaranteed Principal & Equity Plan, seeks to provide consumers with an opportunity to participate in equity investments, but with a "limited downside risk." Here's how:
