Top Ins. Execs Got Healthy Compensation Raises In 1991

Top insurance executives took healthy increases in total compensation in 1991, while middle management got "slight" or considerably smaller increases, according to two recent executive compensation surveys.

Base salaries for the top six executives at commercial insurance companies increased an average of 9.4 percent over 1990, and total annual cash compensation, which includes base salary and bonus, increased an average of 11.2 percent, according to the Philadelphia-based Hay Group.

The Hay survey covers over 1,100 U.S. executives from 77 commercial insurance companies and 29 Blue Cross Blue Shield organizations.
