U.S. sues Fla. Blues over 'false' claims. (Florida Blue Cross and Blue Shield Medicare billing case)

The Justice Department has joined a whistleblower's suit against Florida Blue Cross & Blue Shield alleging that the firm's Medicare Part B claims processing system caused some claims to be unjustly deleted. Plaintiffs in the suit, brought under the False Claims Act, allege that false statements were filed with the Health and Human Services Department's Health Care Financing Administration. The alleged false statements are traced to the limitations of the Florida Blues' GTE data-processing system.
